FROM UNDER THE PUBLISHER"S PALM....January 2008

As we close out what was 2007 I took the time to look back on the year. The United States continued what it termed "the War on Terrorism" leaving a wake of doubt surging through a country that appears divided and yet standing together. The British Pound Sterling, The Euro, and the Canadian Dollar did some surging of their own. The Canadian Loony ended up on par with the greenback and the Pound Sterling doubled in value against the U.S. currency. What should be remembered is that these currencies didn't gain value, rather the U.S. Dollar lost value through fractional lending, over supply, and a few other factors that illustrate the dangers pointed out by Jackson, Jefferson, and Franklin in regard to "fiat currency."
Argentina saw the election of a female president in Christina Fernandez de Kirchner. Ms. Fernandez is the spouse of the outgoing president, Nestor Fernandez, and obviously very popular. As one female leader emerged, we were saddened by the death of another. Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto lost her life as she was assassinated during a rally on 27December2007.
So we drag the problems of the past year all too easily into the new year. Issues will be dealt with. Whether they will be dealt with correctly is not the question, but whether will we will indeed deal with the problems and not the symptoms of those maladies.
Let me start the new year with a wish for a healthy and prosperous 2008 to all of our readers. I would also like to introduce a new look to Distant Shore Ezine. It's my hope that there will be more room for articles. I want to pack as much in every issue as I can. Until now there was so much more I wanted to include. I think this new format will afford us that space.
So here's the first issue of 2008. Enjoy this and your life!
