Take A Trip To Tresco By Gerard Loughlin

The beautiful island of TRESCO is one of five occupied islands situated 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall, in the United Kingdom.

Because of it's close proximity to the mainland, TRESCO is ideal for a day trip, and can be reached by boat, helicopter,or small plane, all of which operate from various places in Cornwall. The boat is not ideal for such a short visit due to the three hours sailing time from Penzance to St. Mary's and the need to catch a further short boat ride to TRESCO itself.

No cars are allowed on the island and this in itself promotes a total sense of relaxation and peace. You can hire a bike and explore the island which is great fun, and on my first visit was the only time I had ridden a bike since childhood, but as there are no cars it doesn't matter if your balance is not perfect.

Apart from exploring the island and just breathing in the tranquillity, you can visit the world famous Abbey Gardens where you will find plants from all over the world which manage to survive due to the sub tropical climate that TRESCO enjoys, a must for gardeners.

There are many activities to pursue depending on your interests, including sailing, sea fishing, windsurfing, birdwatching, short sightseeing trips by boat round the neighbouring islands, walking or just relaxing with a drink outside the New Inn Pub. The island is also famous for it's stunning flowers which make it ideal for an early spring break which along with September is our favourite time to visit.

There are various types of accommodation available on the island including self-catering cottages, hotel, and The New Inn Pub. It is always a good idea to check availability before arriving on the island especially during the peak holiday times.

Warning, a visit to TRESCO is highly addictive and leaves you longing to return.

You can find various sources of information including how to get there , available accommodation etc., by entering TRESCO in your web browser. I hope , no I mean I know , you will enjoy your visit.
